EMPTIES • JANUARY 2018

I find I always have a lot of empty products around this time of year. With the lead up to Christmas I don’t like to buy anything new because I know I will probably be getting new products for Christmas. This means that I end up using up the products I’ve had for awhile. I always feel good when I finish something up like I got my money’s worth. That being said, there are a few items that I’ve emptied out that weren’t my favourite. So here are my reviews.

Kate Somerville ‘Wrinkle Warrior: 2 in 1 Plumping Moisturizer + Serum’

I loved this stuff! I only had a little bit of this product to try as I didn’t have the full size, but I did get two samples to try out. I ended up using this product once a day for about a week, so I feel like I had a good test of whether it worked for me or not. I found that it did give my skin a ‘plumped up’ look, like it was super moisturized, which I liked. It gave my skin so much hydration without feeling thick or gloopy. My problem with this product lies in the price point. A 50 ml bottle sells at Sephora for $114 CAD. For me that is ridiculous pricing for a skincare product, even if it does act as a moisturizer and a serum. I personally would never spend that much because I think there are cheaper alternatives. Right now I’m loving the Origins ‘High Potency Night-a-Mins’ which costs $75 CAD for 75 ml. Still an expensive purchase but it gives me the same amount of moisture as this one.

Overall, I think this is an amazing product but it seems very overpriced to me and I will not be purchasing the full size.

Neutrogena ‘Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free Acne Wash’

This product has salicylic acid which is what drew me to it in the first place. I am a huge fan of salicylic acid, as it really helps me with any spots or blemishes. I know there are many different chemicals that work for different people to treat acne, but salicylic acid is the one that works for me. However, this face wash I did not like. It was very drying on my skin. Maybe that was because it is oil-free? It also never gave me a nice lather, which although not necessary to make a good facial cleanser, I always like to have suds. I’m sure this could work for other people, and if it does it is at a great price point. I just didn’t get along with it.

Overall, not a bad product, but I won’t be repurchasing because I like other facial cleansers more.

Herbal Essences ‘Tea-Lightfully Clean’ Blow-Dry Mist

I would love to repurchase this mist, but unfortunately I don’t think they make it anymore. I could only find it online on the American amazon site. That’s really disappointing for me because  I loved this product. It did a really good job of protecting my hair from heat damage without making it sticky or greasy looking. I sprayed this all over my hair before blow drying and afterwards my hair was so soft and healthy looking. I’m really disappointed that I can’t find it anywhere because I haven’t been able to find anything that compares.

Overall, I so wish I could find this to repurchase. I would definitely recommend it.

Bath and Body Works ‘Pretty as a Peach’ Bubble Bath

I have a love-hate relationship with this product. On the one hand, I love the amount of bubbles this produces. The bubbles also tend to stay around a lot longer than other bubble baths I’ve tried. I also love the smell of this stuff. It’s a nice peachy smell but it doesn’t smell too strongly. So, you could be thinking, why did you say you hate it then? Well this bubble bath makes you smell like peaches for DAYS. Even after using this bubble bath (which doesn’t smell very strong while you’re in the bath) you can still smell peaches days after. I find that it interferes if I want to wear a fragrance, or anything like that.

Overall, it is a good bubble bath, but the fact that it makes your skin smell like peaches for a few days means I probably won’t be repurchasing.

Batiste ‘Sweetie’ Dry Shampoo (Limited Edition)

I think everyone and their mother loves Batiste Dry Shampoo. It is the best dry shampoo I’ve ever tried, and at such an affordable price. I personally loved this limited edition ‘sweetie’ scent and I wish it was part of their permanent collection. This was the perfect light, sweet scent that made my hair smell fresh but wasn’t overpowering. And it was the same formula that I know and love.

Overall, I would definitely repurchase if I could find this again.

The Body Shop ‘Pinita Colada’ Fresh Body Sorbet

I believe this product was limited edition, but I know that The Body Shop has stocked it the past two years in the summer time. I think it is just a summer time fragrance for them. I love this scent. I hate pineapples, and coconuts, and pina coladas, and yet I love this scent! It is so fresh and summery. I also love this sorbet formula. I find it is a lot more moisturizing than the normal ‘body butter’ formula from The Body Shop. My only downside to this one is that it does leave your skin a bit sticky, but that fades away quickly enough.

Overall, I will be looking for this sorbet next summer and will repurchase if I can find it.

Loreal ‘Extraordinary Clay’ Shampoo

I absolutely love this shampoo! I’m not going to go too in-depth into this one. I have a blog post about this product if you want more information on my feelings.

Overall, I already have repurchased. I love this stuff!

Essence Make Me Brow in ‘Soft Browny Brows’

This is the only makeup item in my favourites this time around. I really love this stuff. I have fairly thick eyebrows naturally so I don’t typically feel the need to fill them in with pencils or gel. This is the perfect everyday product to just add a bit more volume to my brows and keep them locked in place. My only problem with this product is the colour selection. I am in between the shades “blondy brows” and “soft browny brows”. I use the shade “soft browny brows” as I prefer to have my brows darker than lighter. I just wish they had an in-between more taupe shade.

Overall, again with this one I have already repurchased. I love this stuff, and you really can’t beat $3.99 CAD for brow gel.

Thanks for Reading 🙂
